A quote from Winston Churchill hangs near my rack of kettlebells; it reads
"When you are going through Hell, keep going!"In other words, when things get tough don't stop your momentum, keep working hard and don't give up.
Nothing could be simpler, yet there are times when nothing seems harder.
This also reminds me of another quote of Winston Churchill's:
"Success is going from failure to failure without losingFailure can become a stepping stone to success when used as a learning experience. Applied to strength training it's pretty simple, when things get the toughest that's when you need to just keep plugging away. Instead of disappointment you can choose to be excited that you have found yet another way that does not work and that you build upon - Hard Earned Experience. Examine why you failed, makes the necessary adaptations, then attack it again... and again... and again... and again. As long as your training is based on proven principles, sound methods and safe technique... have faith and persevere.
enthusiasm."
I've been struggling with the 1/2 bodyweight one-arm press for sometime now. I've been cycling between two programs [the Rite of Passage from "Enter the Kettlebell" and "Perfecting the Press" ] that have been proven to work using the meat and potatoes of the program's religiously and then changing or tweaking what has been referred to plateau breakers ever so often. As a result, I'm the same body weight and significantly stronger. This morning I EASILY performed the 1/2 bodyweight press with zero warmup... after Eight days's of eating, drinking and being a total beach bum in Hawaii.
The point...
Choose proven and boring programs with safe technique over flashy gimmicky programs.
Have faith.
Put in serious work.
and as Winston Churchill once said:
"Never give up, never; never; never; never!"
