CK-FMS

As the demand for kettlebells and kettlebell training grows, many unqualified trainers have begun to advertise their services as kettlebell instructors.
But beware, kettlebell instruction requires an extensive background and training to be truly safe and effective. Don't risk injury or waste time with sub-par instruction when you can train with the best, highly qualified RKC certified kettlebell instructors.
As an RKC I receive many clients who have taken Kettlebell instruction from others in the area and who openly express their gratitude in the high level quality of RKC certified instruction in comparison to what they experienced elsewhere.
RKC kettlebell instructors have undergone the world's most rigorous of kettlebell instructor certification courses and are fully qualified to help you meet and surpass your goals, be they fat loss, strength and power development or athletic success.
In conjunction with FMS founders Gray Cook and Lee Burton and Master RKC Brett Jones, Dragon Door now trains its RKCs in how to integrate the Functional Movement Screen and Corrective Exercise protocols with HardStyle RKC kettlebell training.

This new certification program is the Certified Kettlebell Functional Movement Specialist (CK-FMS).
Listen to Audio of FMS Co-Creator and Master RKC Brett Jones discuss the joining of the RKC and FMS systems.

When you invest in the services of a CK-FMS you can expect to take your athletic performance to a whole new level, as the CK-FMS helps you spot and correct hidden dysfunctions in your body—that have been holding you back from realizing your full athletic potential.

Have you ever had a "coach" that seemed to get frustrated because he couldn't coach good technique to someone? I know I have, in fact I've been that coach. Not anymore... the Functional Movement Screen shows me exactly why someone is incapable of performing a movement, then the Screen shows me how to fix it. I don't need to be an expert in the specific sport in question, I just need to find the individual's biggest weakness and fix it.  The Functional Movement Screen does this for me acting like a magic compass pointing the way to improved performance.  It zeros in on the most serious weakness or imbalance then focuses corrective exercises onto the troubled area.  Often fixing the weakest link in the chain will cause a cascade effect that fixes other seemingly unrelated movements or techniques. To the uninitiated this seems like some sort of black magic or Voodoo. To the knowledgeable trainer with a keen understanding of movement and regional interdependence it makes perfect sense.

If you think there is more to personal training than 3 sets of 10, bosu balls, "feel-the-burn" and bicep curls... you are right!  Personal training should not be about making you puke, setting personal records at the expense of technique or giving you delayed onset muscle soreness that lasts for a week... it's about finding the right exercise for the individual that results in improved movement, improved function AND improved health.

Workouts should NEVER cause injury.
Not everyone is capable of performing a given exercise safely.
Recovering from your workout should not interfere with your life.

The CK-FMS trainer has a proven system of identifying WHICH EXERCISES ARE SAFE FOR YOU to perform as well as which exercises are necessary to re-train your body to move better, and easier. Intense training with faulty movement or pain is the equivalent of racing a car with a bent frame,  poor alignment and one foot on the gas... if you simply put in a bigger and stronger engine, then drive even faster, BAD things ARE going to happen.  We all know runners with bad knees, lifters with bad shoulders, hard-laborers with bad backs.  The CK-FMS trainer will provide the right exercises so that you can remove the brakes, move safer, move easier and then move stronger and faster.  The result of moving better, moving easier and then moving stronger is improved fitness AND improved performance. You will feel better, move better, and look better. This is TRULY PERSONALIZED FITNESS.

WHAT IS THE FMS (Functional Movement Screen)
FMS Stands for the "Functional Movement Screen. The Functional Movement Screen was created by internationally renown Physical Therapist and RKC Gray Cook. The FMS is a series of seven tests that objectively score you on fundamental movement patterns that all healthy human beings should be able to perform. The beauty of the test is that is quick, takes minimal space or equipment, has an uncanny ability to predict the likelihood of non-contact related training injuries that take place during intense exercise as well as a system for correcting poor movement and improving athletic performance.

Here is a version of the movement screen you can perform at home.
Once you've taken the test a Functional Movement Specialist can select the corrective exercise progression that is right for you.

[More information on the Functional Movement Screen]

In simple terms, the FMS is like a GPS that tells the professional trainer exactly what exercises to avoid and what exercises to use to get you to move and perform better, the way God designed your body to be used. The FMS system essentially gives your body's reflexes and movement patterns a tune-up resulting pro-active injury management and improved performance.

WHAT IS CK-FMS?
CK-FMS stands for Certified Kettlebell Functional Movement Screen Specialist.  The CK-FMS is an intensive course reserved for RKC Certified Kettlebell Instructors. The CK-FMS course teaches how to perform the Functional Movement Screen, further break out screens of the seven screens, corrective exercise progressions and how to integrate Kettlebell techniques into the Functional Movement Screen continuum of corrective exercise progressions.  The Functional Movement Screen acts like a GPS telling the CK-FMS specialist exactly what exercise  progressions are needed to restore authentic movement patterns so that your training experience is efficient and injury free.  The result is TRULY PERSONALIZED FITNESS.

WHO NEEDS THE FMS?
Any individual whose routine involves intense exercise or athletics will benefit from the FMS.
Without the FMS system the exercise routines of many individuals are not improving their movement, instead they may be improving their chance of injury. For example: if you are habitually repeating an incorrect squatting pattern and loading it with weight training or high impact exercise you are essentially getting really good at performing bad movement that loads your joints and tendons improperly.  This is like getting really good at driving a race car that's out of alignment or has a flat tire. At some point a high speed catastrophic accident is inevitable.

Coaches and Trainers and Instructors:
By screening your athletes and clients you will have identified those individuals that are at significant risk of injury during certain movements (running, jumping, squatting).  The CK-FMS professional will then prescribe the corrective exercises on an individual basis that will allow your athletes' training sessions to improve their performance instead of improving their chances of injury.

For Example: certain teams in the NFL have such confidence in the FMS system that they simply will not allow players into the weight room or even get on the field/court if certain FMS scores are low or asymmetrical. When an athlete takes the time to step back from training and perform the prescribed FMS corrective exercises the amount of weight they can use safely goes up, and their amount of injuries decrease.

Athletes and Exercisers
Whether you just like to workout our you are a serious athlete you will get better results using correct,  clean movement.  Think about it this way: if your movement is inefficient or incorrect then some of the force of your exercise is not being directed against the ground or the weight, but against your own joints and ligaments. The stronger you get the more sheer forces you are directing against your own body.

Avoid Injury
Rep -by-rep, step-by-step you are causing micro-trauma which will eventually lead to an injury that sidelines you from training and derails you from achieving your fitness goals. This could take minutes, days, weeks or years but I can tell you this: With incorrect movement getting Injured is not a matter of if, it's a matter of when!

Improve Performance!
With the CK-FMS corrective exercise progressions flexibility and stability will improve leading to more efficient movement. Efficient movement is faster and stronger resulting in improved performance in your sport.

Parents
An FMS specialist can prolong your child's health and athletic career, help them perform better and express their body's true athletic potential.  If your child in a sport that involves moving at high speeds and landing or hitting with high impact, moving heavy weight or extreme flexibility then the FMS is for you.
