I hate to be negative, but I keep hearing stories of people getting injured during kettlebell training at local fitness centers. The latest rash of injuries and horror stories involves people hitting themselves in the head with the kettlebell regularly during their group kettlebell classes. This indicates that the instructors have no idea how to teach kettlebell techniques and should cease and desist immediately. Proper kettlebell training should make us healthier and help us move better, not cause bruising or injury.
Getting injured by kettlebell techniques is simply unacceptable.
If you are training with an RKC certified instructor and following instructions, this simply won't happen. In two years of teaching kettlebell classes to groups I have NEVER had a single client hit themselves in the head with a kettlebell. Never. I teach ten classes a week, sometimes more.... so that's more than 1000 classes I've taught and not a single person has hit themselves in the head with a kettlebell.
There are many unqualified trainers out there attempting to teach kettlebell techniques. If you are serious about kettlebell training then get serious and research kettlebell training and find a legitimately certified kettlebell instructor. You will discover that there are legit instructor certifications out there (HKC, RKC, RKC II, CK-FMS) and not-so-legit instructors. The not-so-legit usually consist of those individuals that did not have what it takes or not want to put forth the time, money and effort to get certified at the RKC. Harsh... but true.
As in all professions there are professionals and there are quacks. Apparently there is at least one quack in Omaha teaching kettlebell that is going to seriously injure a client if it hasn't happened already. Probably more.
Swinging a cast iron weight above your head takes good judgement and highly specialized technique. Learn kettlebell the right way, the safe way.
Give us a call at Omaha Kettlebell. We have two RKC certified instructors and two HKC certified instructors that can teach you safely and effectively. If you suspect that you have been victimized by an unqualified kettlebell trainer I will happily provide you a two week free trial.
