The RKC System VS Girevoy Sport

I recently I discovered the following statement on the Blog of a fellow Kettlebell lifter:

"GS aims for efficiency in the lifts for better results where I believe the RKC style if better suited for strength and size results because efficiency is not the main goal but
the intensity of the training."
I have to respectfully disagree. GS and RKC are both about efficiency for entirely different reasons.

Girevoy Sport vs The RKC System

Efficiency
  • GS is about conserving energy and the efficient use of strength to accomplish high reps over time.
  • RKC is about using making the most efficient use of time in order to derive the most effect from the fewest reps.

Fitness

  • GS improves fitness by becoming a better GS athlete.
  • The RKC makes hard stylist better athletes by making them more functionally fit.

High Repetition Lifts

  • In GS Sport the goal is mastering high rep Kettlebell lifts.
  • In the RKC system mastering high rep Kettlebell lifts is just one of the methods used, not the goal.

In my opinion, GS competition and the RKC system are like two different schools teaching the same martial art. One school focuses and trains solely for competition and the other trains solely for self-improvement. Both schools have equally valid yet completely different philosophies.
